A Plastic Surgeon who is a member of BAAPS or BAPRAS Member will have undergone a six-year training programme in an NHS teaching hospital, where they would be regularly assessed and examined. BAAPS and BAPRAS Members have (or had in the past) Consultant Appointments in Plastic Surgery in the NHS. Members are continually keeping up to date with surgical advances through scientific meetings organized by BAAPS and BAPRAS, both in the UK and abroad.

All BAAPS and BAPRAS Members are on the Specialist Register of Plastic Surgeons. You can check whether a surgeon is on the Specialist Register by telephoning the General Medical Council Registry line 0845 357 3456. General surgeons and surgeons from other specialties also perform cosmetic surgery.

BAAPS and BAPRAS Members work in the most reputable hospitals and clinics, those affiliated to the private wings of the NHS hospitals, as well as well-known private hospitals.

BUPA, Axa PPP and other health insurance companies recognize BAAPS and BAPRAS members. Surgical operations related to reconstruction and other medical matters may be insured, although insurance companies do not usually fund cosmetic procedures. A referral will be accepted by your GP from all BAAPS and BAPRAS Members.

BAAPS and BAPRAS Members are very well informed in the field of Plastic Surgery and will be able to advise you of the best range of treatment available to you. This would never be in the form of a sales pitch, as members are not motivated by profit.
