Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon
Mr. O’Donoghue commenced practice as a Consultant in 1999 at St. George’s Hospital London and moved to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in 2002. His NHS practice is based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (Link) and his private practice is based at the Newcastle Nuffield Hospital (link) and the Spire Hospital in Washington (link).
Mr. O’Donoghue graduated from University College Galway, Ireland in 1988. He subsequently completed his basic surgical training in Ireland, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1992. He completed his research in breast cancer at the National Breast Cancer Research Institute in Ireland, gaining his M.Ch in 1995. Mr. O’Donoghue commenced his Plastic Surgery training in Cork and completed it in the UK as Senior Registrar in Stoke Mandeville and Oxford. He also completed 2 specialist training fellowships after his Senior Registrar position. One was in cosmetic surgery at the Wellington Hospital, London and the other was in breast cancer and reconstructive surgery at the Marie Curie Institute in Paris.
His special interests are in microvascular breast reconstruction as well as all aspects of cosmetic surgery. He is a full member of BAAPS(link) and BAPRAS(link) and the Association of Breast Surgeons(Link). He was admitted onto the specialist register of the GMC in 1997(link) after passing the intercollegiate examination in Plastic Surgery the same year. He is currently involved in a number National and European training initiatives through his work with BAPRAS.
His outside interests include golf, sailing, skiing and music.
