IAN WHITWORTH OPERATES ON CH 4’S EMBARRASSING BODIESMr Ian Whitworth was featured on a recent episode of Embarrassing Bodies, using his skill and expertise to recreate a new and less visible abdomen scar for 18 year old Amy. Having survived ovarian cancer Amy was left with a permanent reminder of the surgery she underwent to remove both her ovaries. To have such a large and prominent scar at just 18 Amy felt the need to seek advice from the Embarrassing Bodies clinic. Dr Pixie referred Amy to Consultant Plastic Surgeon Mr Ian Whitworth at his private practice at the Nuffield Health Hospital in Bournemouth. Mr Whitworth used liposuction and reconstructive surgery to remove the large scar from Amy’s abdomen and create a new lower scar which can be easily camouflaged by underwear and swimwear. In order to flatten Amy’s stomach and remove any excess fat Mr Whitworth used liposuction before creating an incision to remove the old scar. Once the old scar had been cut away Mr Whitworth could remove the underlying deeper scar tissue. Once all of the scarring had been removed Mr Whitworth could stretch Amy’s upper skin down to create a new lower scar. Scar revision surgery can be used to improve a number of different scars. Different procedures are used depending on the shape, size, and how deep the scar tissue is. Some scars can be covered with skin camouflage. Generally scar revision involves excising the old scar and creating a new scar which can greatly improve the look of the scar if you’re in experienced hands.
